Teen Confirmation
Be Sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by the special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seals the baptized in union with Christ. The Sacrament of Confirmation is offered twice a year at Prince of Peace. If you have not received your First Eucharist, click HERE (link to First Eucharist landing page)
Preparation
Teens in the Archdiocese of Atlanta are Confirmed in 10th grade and up. Completion of two consecutive years of Youth Ministry is required prior to beginning Confirmation preparation. (As we transition this 2022-2023 school-year, completion of one year of Youth Ministry prior to beginning Confirmation preparation will be accepted.)
Preparation includes:
- Parent orientation meeting during first night of class
- Classes that take place during Youth Ministry (Sunday evenings following the 5 pm Mass),
- Confirmation retreat
- Discernment meetings to measure spiritual growth.
- If you have completed the prerequisite years of Youth Ministry and are in at least 10th grade, register below to begin Confirmation preparation.
There is a connection between the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. The Church encourages you to invite one of your Baptismal godparents to be your Confirmation sponsor.
Your sponsor must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic but cannot be your mother or father.
What does it mean to live a life in harmony with the Catholic Church?
You are looking for a sponsor who is:
- At least 16 years of age
- Faithful to Sunday Mass and to the reception of the sacraments
- A person of prayer. He/she has spoken about and/or shared about the importance of prayer.
- A person of service. He/she donates time or money to help those in need.
- A person of integrity.
- A person you know well and who knows you well. Someone with whom you will have an on-going relationship.
Think of the people in your life: grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, parent of a friend, neighbor, or a teacher at school. It is a huge privilege to be asked to be a Confirmation sponsor. The person you choose should recognize this and take the privilege seriously. He/she should be your prayer partner and mentor in faith long after the Oil of Confirmation has gone from your head and Youth Ministry has passed.
Choosing your saint’s name is an important part of preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. In walking the journey of life, we cannot go it alone. We know God is with us. In choosing a saint, we are choosing someone to remind us of who we want to be like. We are reflecting on our own spirituality, our strengths, and weaknesses, and finding a friend in the process. These saints, like our sponsors, will play an integral role in our spiritual journey, walking beside us as we grow closer to God and praying for us along the way.
If you have a favorite saint that you know and “go to”, this may be an easy process for you. If you do not have a “go to” saint yet, you may start exploring. There are many, many saints! To make the choice easier, you may like to start a list using your following information:
- Baptismal Name
- Birth date
- Interests/hobbies
- Parent or Grandparent Name

Parents
Parents are invited to be as involved in this journey as possible but are required to join the first class for orientation, all discernment check-ins, and participate in some specific Confirmation gatherings. Parent Info Nights are held multiple times a year.
